the story of

Liz: Fostering when I’m single

Single foster carer Liz fosters children from her home near a village in Torfaen.

the foster family

Liz lives in Pontypool, raising her own daughter who is now 9. For Liz fostering felt like something that was always on the cards.

“I knew for a long time that I wanted to foster. I’ve always loved children. When I was a little girl, if someone asked me what I wanted to be, I’d say a mother. Of course, this isn’t what the teachers wanted to hear at the time.”

Being able to offer the time, love and care a child needs, Liz was excited to start this new chapter in her life.

“I’m now a full-time carer and I’ve been fostering for 4 years now”

It seemed like the natural choice for Liz to join her local fostering team.

“It’s not about making a profit, it’s about making a difference, helping local children in need, and giving them a house full of life, love and laughter.”

“they are part of our family”

Liz and her daughter Jade have since watched their foster children grow and develop as individuals. They now care for two sisters, who have been with them for just over three years.

“I knew I wanted to take on siblings together, I didn’t want them to be split up. Jade and I make a great team and help the girls to be a part of our family as well as keeping them in contact with their own family.”

Liz know’s it’s not just about offering a home, but about maintaining important connections too. Now, the girls feel at home and have the right environment to thrive in.

“I would do it all over again”

Joining our team means you’re improving the lives of children in the community of Torfaen, helping to make their futures brighter.

“For anyone thinking about fostering, I say just go for it. Fostering children changes the way you think of the world – it opens your eyes to other people’s lives. it’s changed me as a person.”

It’s a huge reward to know that you’re changing the course of local children’s lives – and that’s something that really matters to Liz.

“I’m doing something good by helping children right on our doorstep, giving these children a safe, secure home. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I would do it all over again”
